Solo Performance with Orchestra
The opportunity to perform a solo with an orchestra is often restricted to students who have won a competition, but our program is intended to provide this experience and training for students at all ages and ability levels. This is our signature program, one that has been in constant development for over a decade. It offers students a rare opportunity to prepare and perform a solo work together with our professional festival orchestra over the course of an entire week, in an environment that provides exceptional support and musical development individually customized to each young musician. We collaborate with each student's private instructor to ensure a comprehensive and collaborative experience.
There are two different Solo Performance with Orchestra programs available:
Advanced Program students can elect to attend as boarders or day participants, and enjoy a two-week immersive program in Session I or Session II that includes daily private lessons, workshops, technique classes, performance classes, daily work with the festival orchestral principals and rehearsals with the full orchestra the second week, culminating in a formal concert at the end of the program. Students also participate in a chamber music intensive every evening. This program is designed for students in grades 6-12 who are working on the standard solo repertoire for their instruments and already have some solo, chamber music, and/or ensemble performance experience.
Intermediate Program students attend as day participants and enjoy a one-week program during Session II that includes daily private lessons, technique classes, a string ensemble, daily work with the festival orchestral principals and rehearsals with the full orchestra, culminating in a formal concert at the end of the program This program is designed or students in grades 4-12 who are just starting to explore the standard solo repertoire for their instruments, and/or have limited performance experience.
