Week Two Programs (July 20-25)
Solo Performance with Orchestra
Our Solo Performance with Orchestra Program (Piano) includes a range of instruction on technique, musicianship, and theory as well as performance classes, practice time, and masterclasses with internationally-recognized piano artists. Daily private instruction with our faculty is offered, with length and intensity tailored to best meet each pianist's musical development.
Among the daily activities we offer include a course on score reading skills so the students can follow a full orchestra score of their concertos and their fellow classmates. A daily performance class in the Hurlbut Theater on our magnificent Steinway Model D allows students to work on their projection and balance. Some of the planned workshops are “The concerto as a genre and its stylistic interpretations,” “How to prepare for an orchestra rehearsal and the logistics of a professional rehearsal,” “Sound projection; how to project over a full orchestra,” “Cadenzas, their interpretation and importance,” “Performance Health and Wellness; how to practice correctly to avoid injuries.”
The Solo Performance with Orchestra Program (Piano) is an all-day (9am-12pm, 12:30pm-3:30pm) program that includes a daily private lesson, practice coaching, as well as the aforementioned workshops, masterclasses. A key component of this program is daily rehearsal with the conductors and orchestra musicians in preparation for a solo performance with the California Solisti Chamber Orchestra, our festival ensemble-in-residence. Our program is a unique one that brings together pianists with orchestra members on a daily basis, instead of solely using piano accompaniments for solo works.
