An innovative and student-centered music experience.
The Summer Music Festival is an incredible summer intensive for young musicians developed by Gene and Chika Wie. Our program is focused on solo performance with orchestra and chamber music, with esteemed artist faculty, bespoke individual schedules, and stellar performance spaces throughout the region.
For 2025, SMF is pleased to offer a five (5) day program where students train and perform with a professional orchestra, and also collaborate in chamber music with the faculty and fellow students. Each day incorporates rehearsals with the orchestra principals, lessons, studio classes, and technique classes. We end our week with a formal concert.
In the past decade-plus, we have presented free concerts at The Darcy Rice Performing Arts Center at St. Margaret's Episcopal School (San Juan Capistrano, CA), The Irvine Barclay Theatre (Irvine, CA), Ann and George Colony Hall at the Paul Mellon Arts Center (Wallingford, CT), and dozens of community centers, libraries, and children's hospitals across the United States.
